— -- Oscar Pistorius resumed his testimony in a South African court Tuesday, describing his relationship with slain girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and the evening that she was shot.

Pistorius testified that he heard a window open in his bathroom in the early hours of Feb. 14, 2013, causing him to believe intruders had entered his house. He said "that's the moment when everything changed."

"I thought that there was a burglar ... I think initially I just froze, I didn't really know what to do ... the first thing that ran through my mind was that I needed to arm myself, that I needed to protect Reeva and I, that I needed to get my gun," he said.

Pistorius also said he and Steenkamp sometimes had troubles in their relationship but that they sorted them out, were in love and were planning a life together. Pistorius has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder of Steenkamp in February 2013.

Court has resumed at after a lunch break.
