Santa Catarina brings $4.8 million at Keeneland

— -- LEXINGTON, Ky. - Graded-stakes winner Santa Catarina was sold for $4.8 million during the second day of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale on Tuesday. The price was the highest so far for the sale and the ninth-highest ever paid during the 61 years of the sale. The 4-year-old daughter of Unbridled with earnings of $645,260 is in foal to A.P. Indy. Consigned by Craig Bandoroff's Denali Stud, as agent for Bob and Beverly Lewis, she was purchased by Reiley McDonald of Eaton Sales, who was acting on behalf of an undisclosed partnership. A total of 211 horses sold for $81,487,000 on Tuesday, for an average of $386,194 and median of $210,000. Last year, 192 sold for $70,432,000, an average of $366,833 and median of $192,500. For the first two days, the average is $383,169, compared with $382,768 last year, while the median of $200,000 was up from last year's $190,000. Fifteen horses topped $1 million on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The sale continues through Nov. 19.
