— -- Coach John Fox has agreed to a new three-year contract with the Denver Broncos, a team source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold on Friday night.

The Associated Press, citing a person with knowledge of the deal, said the Broncos ripped up Fox's 2014 contract and replaced it with a deal that runs through 2016.

Denver general manager John Elway said in early February that Fox would get a new deal this offseason.

Fox has a 34-14 regular-season record over three seasons as coach of the Broncos, winning three AFC West titles and the AFC Championship last season. Overall, he has a 3-3 playoff record with Denver.

He overcame a heart operation in November to lead the Broncos to an appearance in the Super Bowl, where they lost 43-8 to Seattle.

Fox's new deal comes on the same day Seahawks counterpart Pete Carroll signed a three-year extension with the Super Bowl champions.
