— -- Shirley Muldowney didn't just have successful surgery to remove a tumor from her lung Wednesday; the drag racing pioneer was told Friday night that the tumor was not cancerous.

Her agent, Rob Geiger, announced the results on Twitter.

Doctors on Wednesday removed the severely infected tumor, taking out the upper and middle lobe of her right lung as well as her lymph nodes, according to Geiger.

The 75-year-old Muldowney, who still attends races and is one of drag racing's biggest ambassadors, won top-fuel national championships in 1977, 1980 and 1982. She was the first woman to win a National Hot Rod Association professional class event.

"The fans have always been what's kept me going, and I'm sure people will be concerned about me now," Muldowney said in a statement Tuesday. "Well don't be; I'll be fine. There are still a lot of things left I want to do."
