W2W4: Final day in Rio includes hoops, marathon, ceremony
— -- RIO DE JANEIRO -- The last day of the Rio Olympics will feature much drama. Here's a look at what's on our radar:
U.S. men versus Serbia, 2:45 p.m. ET: The U.S. men's basketball team looks to follow the women's team's lead and lock up their own gold medal on Sunday. The Americans are 14-1 in Olympic gold-medal games with the only loss coming in the disputed 1972 game against the Soviets. The games have been closer than some might have forecasted, with four of them being decided by 10 points or fewer, including against Serbia (a 94-91 win in pool play). Australia and Spain face off in the bronze-medal game earlier in the day (10:30 a.m. ET)
Men's marathon, 8:30 a.m. ET: Galen Rupp will look to make some waves in one of the signature events of the finale day of the Olympics after he won the Olympic trials in his first marathon race. He finished fifth in the 10,000 meters last week. Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich, meanwhile, will look to defend his title.
Women's middleweight final, 1 p.m. ET: Claressa Shields was just 17 when she won her first Olympic gold medal in women's boxing's inaugural Olympics four years ago in London. Now, the self-proclaimed "Beast" is looking to make it two in a row. She will face the Netherlands' Nouchka Fontijn.
Men's mountain bike race, 11:30 a.m. ET: Peter Sagan, a familiar face from the Tour de France peloton, decided to switch to the event because he didn't believe the road course played well to his strengths. He will face challenges from a handful of race favorites, including the Czech Republic's Jaroslav Kulhavy and world champ Nino Schurter of Switzerland.
And finally ...
Closing ceremony, 7 p.m. ET: The pomp and circumstance will be on full blast during the closing ceremony at the Maracana. The spectacle will include a true Carnivale parade before the Olympic torch is handed off to Tokyo, host of the 2020 Summer Olympics.
