W2W4: Women's golf, men's hoops top Wednesday's must-watch list

— -- RIO DE JANEIRO -- From a full schedule of track and field, to elimination rounds beginning in men's hoops, there is plenty to keep on the radar Wednesday at the Rio Olympics:

Women's 200-meter final, 9:30 p.m. ET; men's 200 semifinals, 9 p.m. ET: There is a full slate of events in track and field, and here is what should be on your radar. Ashton Eaton officially begins his Olympic defense in the decathlon, trying to become the first decathlete to win back-to-back golds since Daley Thompson of Britain (1980, 1984). Caster Semenya races in preliminary heats in the 800, while Brittney Reese looks to defend her long-jump title (final, 8:15 p.m. ET). Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin and LaShawn Merritt all look to advance to the men's 200 final, while Tori Bowie looks to earn her second medal of the Games in the women's 200 final.

Women's tournament, Round 1, 6:30 a.m. ET: From LPGA commissioner Mike Whan to stars like Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson, the pillars of women's golf know how important the Olympic stage will be for their tour and game. While six of the top 10 men did not come to Rio, the top nine women in the world will take part in the Olympic golf tournament.

United States versus Argentina, 5:45 p.m. ET: The U.S. men's basketball team begins the knockout stage against Argentina, the last team to beat the Americans at the Olympics (2004). The U.S. men have won 73 straight international games, last losing in 2006. The other quarterfinals matchups: Australia-Lithuania (10 a.m. ET), Spain-France (1:30 p.m. ET) and Croatia-Serbia (9:15 p.m. ET).

Men's semifinals, noon ET: After watching Marta and the women's team fall in heartbreaking fashion (Brazil lost to Sweden on penalties), the host nation will shift its medal hopes to Neymar. The Brazilian men's team faces Honduras in the first of two semifinal matches Wednesday, while Nigeria and Germany face off at 3 p.m. ET. The gold-medal match is Saturday.

Women's semifinals, 3:30 p.m. ET: The U.S. women's water polo team faces Hungary, as it looks to be the first women's team to defend its water polo gold medal. This is the Americans' fifth straight semifinal appearance. Hungary has never reached the women's Olympic final.
