Sept. 13, 2010— -- A more powerful Wi-Fi could soon be here. The FCC plans to vote on rules later this month that would open airwaves for broadband that have been described as Wi-Fi on steroids.

The signal would travel miles, penetrate walls and deliver Internet speeds as fast as a cable modem. This new Wi-Fi could begin showing up in gadgets a year from now.

Researchers have made a breakthrough in developing so-called artificial skin. The "skin" can be used to create robots with a grip delicate enough to hold an egg. Eventually, the researchers hope the material is capable of restoring the sense of touch in people with prosthetic limbs.

This week's Amazing App is "Old MacDonald," a musical book for little kids that teaches them language and motor skills. Parents can sing and read with their children, listen to the song in five languages and record their children singing. Kids can also touch and explore the interactive illustrations. The app costs $1.99.
