— -- Amazon has just launched an iPad app for its Instant Video service, 9to5Mac reports. Thanks to the app, Prime subscribers in the U.S. will now be able to stream Amazon's film and TV catalog right from their tablet at no additional cost.

As you may know, Amazon's Instant Video service is free to those who subscribe to its 2-day shipping service Amazon Prime, which costs $79/year. It boasts a catalog of over 18,000 video titles available for instant streaming.

While the service works on multiple platforms and recently landed on the Xbox 360, this new iPad app is a welcome addition to Instant Video's access points, not to mention that Amazon's Whispersync technology lets users resume viewing across devices.

The app supports offline viewing, an interesting feature for sure. The app also lets users access content they have added to their watchlist from other devices.

It's been a busy week for Amazon news. A couple of days ago, the company unveiled a licensing deal with Warner Bros. to boost its Instant Video library, following similar deals with MGM and Paramount. It also made an important update to its cloud music service, Cloud Player, which is now ready to compete head-to-head with Apple's iTunes Match.
