Microsoft to Replace Some Surface Pro Power Cords Due to Overheating Reports

— -- Microsoft said today it will replace power cords for some users of its Surface Pro line of computers after "a very small proportion" of customers reported issues with overheating.

"As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord," a Microsoft representative said in a statement to ABC News. "We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly."

It's unclear how widespread a voluntary recall would be. Channelnomics Europe, which first reported the news, said the voluntary recall would cover the Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, and Surface Pro 3 devices that were sold before July 15, 2015.

Microsoft reported $3.6 billion in revenue from its Surface products in its 2015 annual report. The devices can act as a tablet while also quickly sliding into a keyboard, transforming it into a laptop computer.
