— -- Doorbell plays MP3 tunes

You can share your good taste in music before your guests even enter the front door with the MP3 DJ Doorbell. Set up is simple: The push-button doorbell can be attached near your front door with the included double-sided adhesive. The doorbell's speakers — which have a slot for an SD card — can be attached to a wall or placed on a shelf inside your living room up to 165 feet away from the doorbell. When someone presses the doorbell, it sends a wireless signal to the speaker, which then plays music stored on a memory card. Priced at about $50, The MP3 DJ Doorbell from Swann includes MP3 editing software.

The camera can handle HD Skype video calls (1280 by 720) at up to 30 frames per second while its noise-canceling microphone can minimize background noise, making it easier for others to hear what you have to say. Using the included software, you also can add special video and audio effects and create movies. It costs about $70.

System keeps gear in sync

If you want to sync two PCs without relying on a cloud-based service, "GoodSync Desktop 9 for Windows'' can help it happen. Developed as a back-up and syncing solution, the latest version from Siber Systems lets you connect multiple computers and devices through an encrypted connection. During the process, you can view the files as you upload or download them between computers. The new version speeds up the process by only syncing the changed portion of a file, rather the entire file. It also lets you access a file on your home computer from a computer at work, which is handy if you leave an important presentation on the other computer. A license for one computer costs about $30. Other versions are available.
