May 10, 2011— -- Your cell phone could soon be an early warning system. Federal officials later today will announce a program to send emergency messages via text message. It will be launched first in New York and Washington, D.C. The warnings would be about natural disasters or terrorism.

SOCOM 4

It went on sale before the death of Osama bin Laden, but a new video game lets you pretend you're a Navy SEAL. CNET's Dan Ackerman says SOCOM 4 is only available for the Sony PlayStation.

"Basically, you and your team usually have to get from point A to point B, either in a bombed out city or in a jungle, and take out some terrorists or rebels or enemy mercenaries along the way," Ackerman said. "It's a combination of a standard action shooter and a more tactical sort of military game where you have to position your team right, choose the right weapons and issue the correct commands to your squad in order to get through the level."

You can play the game with your friends online, when the PlayStation network is up and running.
