July 14, 2010 -- A Jedi makes a U-turn only as a last resort. But if you get lost, at least now Yoda can show you the way.
"We're thrilled by the reception that the Star Wars voices have received thus far and now we're excited to add Yoda to our lineup as it is one of the most frequently requested voices by the TomTom community," Tom Murray, senior vice president market development at TomTom, Inc., said in a release.
With LucasFilm, the company previously launched the voices of cyborg C-3PO and diabolical Darth Vader. In August, TomTom says it plans to release the voice of Han Solo.
Master Jedi Will Take You to Your Destinationl
For about $12, aspiring Jedis can download the voice of Yoda, which is accompanied by John Williams' "Yoda Theme" music.
"Take you to your destination, I will," he promises in one voice clip on TomTom's site.
"After 700 hundred yards hmm, keep to the right then take a sharp left. Control, control, if a Jedi you wish to be," he says in another.
In addition to the downloadable voices, TomTom also released spoof YouTube videos of Yoda and Darth Vader in the recording studio. In one video, Yoda is asked to keep his signature "hmms" to a minimum.
In another clip, Darth curtly tells the technician he can "dispense with the pleasantries" when he's asked if he wants a glass of water.
TomTom also launched an online StarsWars game set a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Players choose to play for the dark side or the light side and can win weekly prizes, including a free TomTom device.
