Apparent Suicide Note Led to Former Model's Body

March 11, 2009— -- A man who killed himself when police tried to question him about the disappearance of a former model left a suicide note that said he was "sorry" and revealed the location of the woman's body, police said today.

Bartlett, Tenn., police said at a press conference that a note left by 21-year-old Austin Agee led them to the body of Lisa Renee Davis, who had been missing since Sunday.

Agee shot and killed himself with a shotgun Tuesday afternoon after police came to his house to question him about Davis' disappearance, police said. The note said Agee was "sorry" and said things "got out of hand," according to ABC News affiliate WPTY in Memphis.

Davis' body was found in a field not far from Agee's house. Police said they have not yet determined a cause of death and that the investigation is continuing.

Davis and Agee were acquaintances who had not known each other long, police said. Davis, 29, had gone out with a group of friends, including Agee, Saturday night and was last seen when her friends dropped her off at home at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Based on Agee's body language during an initial interview, police went to his house Tuesday for a follow-up interview, they said.

When police arrived, Agee's mother opened the door and went upstairs to get her son.

"There was a scuffle and then a scream and then a shot," said Steve Shular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

He said officers believe Agee shot himself with a shotgun. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A note left by Agee led detectives to a field a few miles from Agee's house, where Davis' body was found, police said.

Friends told WPTY that Agee had lifelong health problems and was waiting for a kidney transplant.

Davis, a former model, was reported missing Sunday after she didn't show up for work at the Bumpus Harley-Davidson dealership in Memphis.

She was last seen at about 2 a.m., when her friends dropped her off at home after a night out, police said. Investigators found a pool of blood in the foyer of her house. Police also found Davis' keys and cell phone inside the house. There was no sign of a break-in.
