What It's Like at The Carlyle Hotel, NYC Home of Prince William and Kate
The 188-room luxury hotel offers lavish decor and discreet security.
— -- When you're royalty visiting New York City for the first time, no ordinary accommodations will do. So where does one lay down their crown in the city that never sleeps?
In between appointments with President Obama and various galas, Britain's Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton have made The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, their home away from home.
Located on the Upper East Side, with views overlooking Central Park and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir, and within close proximity to luxury boutiques and the Museum Mile, The Carlyle has long been a favorite destination for foreign dignitaries.
"His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales; the late Diana, Princess of Wales; their Majesties, the Kings and Queens of Denmark, Greece, Spain and Sweden have all visited," according to hotel representatives.
Part of the appeal can be attributed to the hotel's discretion when it comes to high-profile guests. A spokesperson declined to offer any details to ABC News about Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge's visit.
What is known is that, inside the 64 suites at the hotel, including the Central Park Tower and Royal Suites, many feature Steinway or Baldwin baby grand pianos, plasma HDTVs, and large picture windows to drink in the cityscape.
Bathroom chambers are kitted out with Kiehl's toilet fixtures, monogrammed terrycloth bathrobes and slippers and Nero Marquina and Thassos marble finishes.
While the hotel offers multiple dining options, such as The Carlyle Restaurant, The Gallery, Cafe Carlyle and Bemelman's Bar, guests who are reluctant to leave their rooms can indulge in 24-hour room service or dive inside the stocked mini bar, including Taittinger Champagne, Dean & DeLuca chocolates and Dylan's Candy Bar treats.
