— -- If you're casting about for a last-minute gift for the winter sports nut on your list, you're in luck. New gear aims to keep the outdoorsy set warm, safe and headed in the right direction. USA TODAY's Jayne Clark looks at some new products to fit a range of budgets.

In your face

ColdAvenger is a ventilated face mask that lets you breathe easy while keeping the air inside 40 to 60 degrees warmer than outside temperatures. A medical-grade polyurethane chamber that fits over the nose and mouth mixes cold outside air with warm exhaled air, balancing warmth and humidity. The fabric mask not only keeps cold and wind at bay, but the developer (it was invented by an Arizona toxicologist) says it also guards against lung injuries caused by extreme cold.

Comes in:Black, white and camouflage in two models: the Classic (fleece) and Pro (fleece covered with wind-resistant fabric).

Cost:$49.95 for the Classic; $59.95 for the Pro

Heat it up

The Rossignol HITjacket is hot stuff. Really. Another item in the heated-clothing craze (HIT stands for heat integrated technology), the coat has four heated panels in the lining that can be switched on and off via a rechargeable battery tucked in a pocket. The charge lasts for about 15 five- to six-minute intervals ideal for warding off chairlift chill.

Comes in:Two colors: black and white; women's sizes only.

Cost:$700

Warm from head to toe

The Selk'bag, billed as a "wearable sleeping bag," won't win any fashion awards, but it will keep you snug. The mummy-style bag has arm and leg slots and a full hood, allowing mobility while staying bundled up.
