The man accused of killing his former boss with a hatchet at a gym in Tennessee has been arrested in neighboring Kentucky after more than 24 hours on the run, police said.

Domenic Micheli, who was an employee at the Nashville-area Balance Training center, walked into the fitness studio Monday morning and allegedly stabbed his former supervisor to death with a hatchet, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Authorities identified the dead man as 46-year-old Joel Paavola, who fired Micheli in early 2017, police said.

Micheli, 36, allegedly fled the scene and was on the run until Tuesday night, when Kentucky state troopers pulled him over on a major interstate highway.

State Police received a call Tuesday around 7:11 p.m. local time from a motorist who spotted the suspect traveling northbound in a silver Toyota Yaris on Interstate 65 near the city of Bowling Green, about a 90-minute drive from where Monday's attack took place.

State troopers responded to the area and located the vehicle in question with Micheli at the wheel, authorities said.

Micheli was apprehended without incident and charged with being a fugitive from another state, in connection with the homicide warrant issued by Nashville police. He was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail, according to Kentucky State Police.

Metro Nashville police released this photo of a Nashville, Tenn., fitness center on June 4, 2018, saying that murder victim Joel Paavola ran this location.

Micheli had a brush with the law less than two months ago when he allegedly refused to remove his car from a checkpoint near the White House.

He was arrested the evening of April 27 for alleged unlawful entry and failure to obey, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

He was found competent last month to stand trial, The Associated Press reported, citing a Washington federal court document. It’s unclear whether he has entered a plea.

Micheli remained in pretrial halfway house bond status, according to a May 18 docket entry cited by the AP.
