— -- Like a geyser in action, huge amounts of water shot up from a broken fire hydrant in San Francisco, damaging apartments and wetting streets.

The incident happened Saturday when a car hit the hydrant, ABC station KGO-TV reported.

The waterworks continued for about 10 minutes and damaged a three-story building. It left the carpet in the hallways soaked and water dripping from the roof, the station reported

No tenants had to evacuate, according to officials.

The incident at Filbert and Franklin streets was captured on cellphone video. A building owner said a neighbor accidentally backed into the hydrant, according to KGO.

Crews arrived to dry out the area that could take days.
