Driver Escapes Unscathed After Gas Pump Explodes
No one was harmed in the incident.
— -- Drivers have been known to crash into storefronts, but one driver recently collided into a gas pump last Saturday in Snohomish County, Washington.
Surveillance video captured the entire incident. The 31-year-old driver was apparently asleep at the wheel and drove in “the completely wrong direction," crashing into the gas pump, according to Pami Kand, owner of the Vallero gas station.
The pump fell over and immediately burst into flames. The driver was in the car while it was on fire for over 40 seconds before he emerged from the flames.
“Luckily no one was hurt,” said Kand.
Shari Ireton, director of communications for Snohomish County Sheriff's office, did not disclose the driver’s name but said he was not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was not charged by police.
The fire department arrived minutes after the fire began, according to Kand, and the gas station was able to reopen later that afternoon. The gas station is still undergoing repairs from the incident.
