4 dead, 2 missing after flooding pummels North Carolina

In Charlotte, flooding led to evacuations at a charter school.

Relentless rainfall is pummeling North Carolina, sparking deadly flash flooding.

Flooding in Alexander County has four people dead and two others -- one adult and one child -- missing, officials said.

Rainfall totals have reached 8.6 inches in Rocky Mount and 7.66 inches in Wilson.

In Charlotte, where over 4.5 inches of rain fell in less than six hours, flooding led to evacuations at a charter school. At least 143 people have been rescued, fire crews said.

Flash flood warnings remain in effect across a large portion of North Carolina with flash flood watches in effect along the mid-Atlantic coast, from South Carolina to Virginia.
