Injuries Reported After Possible Tornado Touches Down in Miss.

At least 4 people have been injured, none seriously, officials said.

April 7, 2014— -- Injuries were reported and homes were damaged after a possible tornado touched down near Jackson, Miss. this morning, officials tell ABC News.

John Pope, Fire Chief in Collins City, Covington County, says between four and six people there have reported injuries, with some residents stuck in their homes due to debris.

Covington County Emergency Management Director Greg Sanford also said injuries have been reported.

The possible tornado touched down six miles southwest of Taylorsville, Smith County, in the south-central part of the state.

According to NWS, the possible tornado was moving northeast at 55 miles per hour, with “complete destruction” possible to nearby homes, businesses and vehicles.

Authorities say it’s important for residents to take cover, move to an interior room and avoid windows.
