Patient Suitcases Hold the Key to Abandoned Asylum's Past

Nora M., no known date of admittance. Jon Crispin has been photographing suitcases that were left at the Willard Asylum for the Insane when it closed in 1995. The New York State Museum recently acquired 400 of the Willard cases. "This is perhaps one of my favorite photographs from the project. Along with the stunning photograph is her personal diary, which I came across regularly when photographing the cases," Crispin says.
