That's not rain headed towards Oklahoma.

— -- Radar imagery is a very common tool used to detect weather conditions -- from rain and thunderstorms to snow and ice.

But sometimes, it doesn't just pick up precipitation -- and this is one of those times.

You might think that yellow and green blob is a passing thunderstorm, but actually that was created by grasshoppers and beetles near the border between Texas and Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Jonathan Kurtz, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, said, "It doesn't take a whole lot for radar to pick up anything that moves in the air, if it's high enough to be picked up by the lowest scan."

It's actually not that rare. Radar is very sensitive and if the conditions are just right, it can pick up all sorts of non-weather related objects and creatures. Bug, birds, bats, and even traffic have been detected by radar.
