Siblings Charged With Theft of Missing Police Captain's Car
Authorities hope $30K reward will help them find Kevin Quick.
Feb. 6, 2014— -- Virginia police have made two arrests connected to the disappearance of reserve police captain Kevin Quick.
Now, authorities hope an increased reward of $30,000 will lead them to Quick himself.
The police captain and father, 45, was reported missing Saturday when he failed to show up to a party that he had planned for his younger brother Glenn’s 40th birthday.
The two people charged in connection to Quick’s disappearance are siblings – Mersadies Shelton, 20, and her 18-year-old brother, Daniel Mathis. They were taken into custody at a hotel where they were allegedly hiding and charged with the theft of Quick's car, ABC News' affiliate WJLA reported.
Police hope to question a third person in the case.
Police say the missing officer’s vehicle, a silver Toyota 4 Runner, led them to the siblings. The SUV was captured on surveillance images in two parts of the state, and authorities believe the vehicle was involved in an armed robbery and shooting Sunday night.
It was later found abandoned outside a home in Mineral, Va.
Glenn Quick remains hopeful that his brother will be found alive.
“We’re still hoping that he’s still with somebody, or somewhere. But you can’t help think the worst,” Glenn Quick said.
