1. Oscar Nominations Announced Today

Stars are on the edge of their seats this morning for today's Oscar nominations.

Actor Chris Pine, his "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams and last year's Best Director winner, Alfonso Cuarón are joining Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs to announce who will forever have "Academy Award Nominee" attached to their names.

2. Ohio Man Arrested for Alleged ISIS-Inspired Plot on US Capitol, FBI Says

The FBI Wednesday arrested an Ohio man for allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired attack on the U.S. Capitol, where he hoped to set off a series of bombs aimed at lawmakers, whom he allegedly considered enemies.

Christopher Lee Cornell, 20, of Green Township, was arrested on charges of attempting to kill a U.S. government official, authorities said.

According to government documents, he allegedly planned to detonate pipe bombs at the national landmark and open fire on any employees and officials fleeing after the explosions.

3. Yosemite Free-Climb Duo Reach El Capitan Summit

An impossible dream was realized for Yosemite climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson, as they became the first to free-climb to the top of the nearly vertical El Capitan's "Dawn Wall."

Caldwell and Jorgeson used only their hands and feet to inch up the 3,000-foot rock. The Dawn Wall is the steepest half-mile stretch of granite that faces east toward the sun.

4. Divers Search AirAsia Fuselage for Bodies

Indonesian navy divers were trying to find and retrieve bodies Thursday believed to be trapped inside a large chunk of the AirAsia jet's fuselage, an official said.

Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo said the fuselage, which was spotted Wednesday by a Singaporean navy ship, would be lifted from the seabed after the search for bodies was no longer considered effective.

5. Girl's Balloon Letter to Deceased Dad Gets Reply 436 Miles Away

For her late father's Jan. 6 birthday, 16-year-old Ashlynn Marracino wrote him a letter and sent it floating on a star-shaped balloon.

One day later, Lisa Swisley stumbled upon the teen's touching request.
