'Underwear Hero' Helps Nab Runaway Driver, Becomes Overnight Australian Sensation
The man's offbeat personality has made him a viral sensation.
— -- A man dressed only in his underpants led police to an unlicensed driver who allegedly crashed a car into an Australian takeout restaurant before fleeing the scene -- and in the process has become a folk hero.
Daniel McConnell, who is rapidly becoming a viral sensation due to his offbeat personality and proclivity to use the phrase "me jocks" when referring to his underwear, told Australian media that he was lying in bed at home in the Brisbane suburb of Hendra at around 2 a.m. when a car slammed into the front of a neighboring fish-and-chips shop.
McConnell described what happened next to TODAY, an Australian morning show.
"I come outside in me jocks, and I seen old mate and I said, 'oi, what are you doing here mate, you gotta wait here,' and he's like, 'nah, nah, I fell asleep behind the wheel,'" McConnell told the show. "He's just started taking off, so I've run inside, jumped in me little purple car, and started chasing him up the street."
McConnell eventually led police to arrest the driver.
"And I was just chasing him in me jocks," he added.
