Sept. 6, 2010— -- As the vital signs of the nation's economy appear to weaken, President Obama will announce on this Labor Day his latest bid to create jobs and revive the country's sagging economic fortunes.

Obama will unveil a "package of ideas" intended to give an economic boost, including infrastructure spending on highways and railways and tax breaks for small businesses. The president will outline his plans in Cleveland.

Major economic indicators suggest that the president faces a monumental task. Nearly one in 10 Americans is out of work, and 54,000 jobs were lost in August, according to the Labor Department. Furthermore, the hiring outlook remains weak, offering little hope for the near future.
