The commander of the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland recently visited by Vice President JD Vance was removed from command on Thursday due to a "loss of confidence."

President-elect Donald Trump is again floating his interest in U.S. ownership of Greenland.

Interest in buying Greenland has "popped up from time to time in American politics," Tom Høyem, Denmark's former minister to Greenland, told ABC News in an interview.

A vote that held little global significance in the past is now being watched around the world.

J.D. Vance doubled down on the administration's interest in acquiring Greenland while at the Pituffik Space Base as Donald Trump argued the U.S. "can't" do without it.

An international relations expert said there are a few ways Trump could acquire Greenland, however, those options would have serious consequences to the world order.

Denmark is open to discussions with the U.S. on how to "fix" the status quo in Greenland, the country's foreign minister said, after Vice President JD Vance's visit.
