ABC News Interviews Rehab Owner Christopher Bathum and Women Who Filed Suit Against Him for Alleged Sexual Battery
--
ABC News’ “20/20” interviews Christopher Bathum, owner of more than 20 drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, who has been accused by women of offering them drugs, making unwelcome sexual advances, and derailing their recovery. Several former clients who have filed suit against Bathum, alleging sexual battery, tell their story to ABC News. Correspondent Matt Gutman reports for “Rehab Mogul” airing on “20/20,” Friday, June 17 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.
Gutman interviews one woman who alleges Bathum overdosed on heroin and methamphetamine during a drug binge one night with her and two of his other clients. In his interview with “20/20,” Bathum denies this story and claims he is a victim of identity theft. He says he is helping hundreds of addicts maintain sobriety, and he vows to fight back against his accusers. Bathum denies all of the women’s allegations and is countersuing the women for libel.
Bathum’s company Community Recovery Inc has facilities in California and Colorado, earning almost $30 million in revenue last year, according to Bathum. Many recovering addicts call Bathum a savior – but some are claiming he is a dangerous predator who has targeted vulnerable young women.
“20/20” is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
