'World News Tonight with David Muir' Is America's No. 1 Newscast in Total Viewers for the Week

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the week’s No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (7.791 million) for the week of June 13, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  “World News Tonight” out delivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.696 million) by 95,000 to win in Total Viewers for the 5th time in the last 6 weeks.

“World News Tonight” narrowed its week-to-week margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits in Adults 25-54 (-20% - 201,000 vs. 251,000) and Adults 18-49 (-43% - 87,000 vs. 153,000).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+33,000 - 8.530 million vs. 8.497 million).  Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

“World News Tonight” is also narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits (-42% - 193,000 vs. 335,000) for the 2nd straight season, posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

For the week, “World News Tonight” defeated the “CBS Evening News” by 1.374 million Total Viewers, by 198,000 Adults 25-54 and by 205,000 Adults 18-49.

2nd Quarter 2016 

For the 2nd Quarter 2016, ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 7.950 million Total Viewers, 1.723 million Adults 25-54 and 1.238 million Adults 18-49, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.

For the 4th year in a row, “World News Tonight” built the year-ago 2nd quarter in Total Viewers (+1% - 7.950 million vs. 7.857 million for 2Q15) to deliver its most-watched 2nd quarter in 9 years – since 2Q07.

“World News Tonight” cut its margins from the previous quarter (1Q16) with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in all key target demos Total Viewers (-44% - 92,000 vs. 163,000), Adults 25-54 (-36% - 119,000 vs. 187,000) and Adults 18-49 (-18% - 176,000 vs. 214,000).

For the 2nd quarter, “World News Tonight” out performed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.265 million Total Viewers, by 211,000 Adults 25-54 and by 213,000 Adults 18-49.
