"World News Tonight with David Muir" is Delivering the Largest Overall Viewer Audience in 9 Years
ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 8.665 million Total Viewers, 1.961 million Adults 25-54 and 1.393 million Adults 18-49 for the week of March 7, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+9,000 - 8.860 million vs. 8.851 million). Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.
“World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast on Friday (3/11/16), leading “NBC Nightly News” in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+276,000 – 7.889 million vs. 7.613 million), Adults 25-54 (+126,000 – 1.830 million vs. 1.704 million) and Adults 18-49 (+82,000 – 1.294 million vs. 1.212 million). Further, “World News Tonight” has been the No. 1 evening newscast on Friday in Total Viewers for the last 7 weeks. “World News Tonight” was also No. 1 in Total Viewers on Wednesday (3/9/16), leading “NBC Nightly News” by 8,000 (8.882 million vs. 8.874 million).
“World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-55% - 238,000 vs. 533,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.
“World News Tonight” improved on the year-ago week (8.120 million and 1.360 million, respectively, w/o 3/9/16) in Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%).
For the week, “World News Tonight” outpaced the “CBS Evening News” by 1.238 million Total Viewers, by 191,000 Adults 25-54 and by 182,000 Adults 18-49.
