'World News Tonight with David Muir' Improves in Total Viewers Year-to-Year for 3rd Straight Week

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” drew 7.761 million Total Viewers, 1.661 million Adults 25-54 and 1.179 million Adults 18-49 for the week of May 9, 2016, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” improved on its year-ago week performance in Total Viewers (+4,000 – 7.761 million vs. 7.757 million on 5/11/15), improving year-to-year for the 3rd straight week.

“World News Tonight” stood as the No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers, leading “NBC Nightly News,” on Monday (+99,000 – 8.684 million vs. 8.585 million – 5/9/16) and on Friday (+109,000 – 7.029 million vs. 6.920 million – 5/13/16).  In fact, “World News Tonight’s” Monday airing stood as the most-watched telecast of the week, outdrawing every telecast of “CBS Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News.”

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+8,000 - 8.618 million vs. 8.610 million).  Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

“World News Tonight” is also narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits (-33% - 265,000 vs. 396,000) for the 2nd straight season, posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 993,000 Total Viewers, by 127,000 Adults 25-54 and by 117,000 Adults 18-49.
