'World News Tonight with David Muir' Ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers on Monday and Friday

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” drew 7.500 million Total Viewers, 1.627 million Adults 25-54 and 1.208 million Adults 18-49 for the week of July 18, 2016, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  

World News Tonight” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers, leading “NBC Nightly News” head-to-head on Monday by 139,000 (8.241 million vs. 8102 million on 7/18/16) and Friday by 183,000 (7.544 million vs. 7.361 million on 7/22/16).  In fact, “World News Tonight’s” Monday airing stood as the most-watched telecast of the week, outdelivering every telecast of the week of “CBS Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News.”    

For the 5th week in a row, “World News Tonight” was up compared to the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+1% - 7.500 million vs.  7.440 million for w/o 7/20/15).

“World News Tonight” slashed its Total Viewer margins with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half both week to week (-79% - 61,000 vs. 286,000 for w/o 7/11/16) and year to year (-72% - 61,000 vs. 217,000 for w/o 7/20/15).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+42,000 - 8.446 million vs. 8.404 million).  Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

“World News Tonight” is also narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits (-46% - 191,000 vs. 353,000) for the 2nd straight season, posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

For the week, “World News Tonight” outpaced the “CBS Evening News” by 1.409 million Total Viewers, by 265,000 Adults 25-54 and by 322,000 Adults 18-49.
