Watch: Acoustic Performance of Astro's hit "Ciervos"
Chilean band Astro performs for us in NYC's Tompkins Square PArk.
July 31, 2013 -- In recent years, there's been an intriguing pop music scene sparkling out of Chile. One of the brightest gems to rise out of this standout music milieu is the electropop quartet Astro.
Lead singer and guitarist Andrés Nusser founded the band in 2008 along with Octavio Cavieres, Lego Moustache, and Zeta Moustache. With two groundbreaking albums, Le Disc de Astrou (2009) and Astro (2012), and now signed to Nacional Records, Astro made their US debut at SXSW in 2012, and recently appeared at the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York City. The band, which has been compared to MGMT, are currently touring around California and play Lollapalooza this weekend.

After their US tour, the Astro boys will head back to Chile where they will continue working on their anticipated junior album. With new music machines and new discoveries, Andrés abstractly promises the upcoming record to be "very fresh and humid at the same time."
We met up with them at East Village's Tompkins Square Park where they serenaded us and shared a few words.
