Cat Smuggles Saw, Phone Into Brazil Prison

Authorities looking into who used cat to smuggle contraband

Jan. 7, 2013— -- Guards at a prison in Arapiraca, Brazil were surprised to find that a cat had wandered into the facility's prison yard. More surprising still was that the cat was covered in duct tape and carrying a mobile phone, earphone, memory card, batteries, and a cell phone charge, in addition to a saw and drill.

Investigators do not know who is behind the plot to smuggle contraband via feline, so all 263 inmates at the prison are currently suspects.

A spokesperson for the prison astutely informed the O Estado de S. Paulo paper that, "It will be hard to discover who is responsible since the cat does not speak."
