Salon.com News Editor Moves to ABC Blotter as Managing Editor

Mark Schone joins Brian Ross and the ABC News Investigative Unit.

Nov. 5, 2009 — -- The executive news editor of Salon.com, Mark Schone, will join ABC News next month as managing editor of the ABCNews.com Blotter, the award winning website which features the work of Brian Ross and the ABC News investigative unit.

"Mark is a first-rate investigative reporter who has also proven himself to be one of the top editors working in online journalism today," said Ross, the ABC News chief investigative correspondent. "We are thrilled that he is joining our team."

Schone has worked at Salon.com since 2006 where he was responsible for all news, opinion and politics content.

Prior to Salon, Schone launched and ran a crime and celebrity news site called Justice and was a senior contributing writer at SPIN.

Schone has contributed articles for the New York Times, Legal Affairs, Wired, Rolling Stone, the Washington Post and the Boston Globe.

He is also the coauthor of Son of a Grifter: the Twisted Tale of Sante and Kenny Kimes, a national bestseller published by William Morrow in 2001. The book won an Edgar Allen Poe award from the Mystery Writers of America.

Schone received an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and a masters' degree from the University of Georgia.

The ABC News investigative unit is one of the most honored investigative teams in American journalism and has received dozens of prestigious awards. In addition to its website, the Blotter, Ross and his team contribute on a regular basis to Good Morning America, ABC World News with Charles Gibson, Nightline, 20/20 and ABC News Radio. Rhonda Schwartz is the unit's senior producer.
