Arianna Huffington to Leave Huffington Post to Launch New Startup
The new venture is centered on health and wellness.
-- The Huffington Post is losing its namesake.
Media mogul Arianna Huffington, the site’s founder and editor-in-chief, announced via Twitter today that she’s leaving the website to focus on launching a new health and wellness startup.
“I thought HuffPost would be my last act,” the mogul said in a tweet. “But I’ve decided to step down as HuffPost’s editor-in-chief to run my new venture, Thrive Global.”
The new venture aims to “change the way we work and live by ending the collective delusion that burnout is a necessary price for success,” according to a press release tweeted by Huffington.
The release said the startup will provide “trainings, seminars, e-courses, coaching, and ongoing support based on the latest scientific findings from experts in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, productivity, sports, and sleep.”
Last year, Huffington published a book titled “Thrive,” covering themes similar to the mission of her new startup.
Huffington added in a separate tweet that the only way to build “something from scratch” is “w/ your full attention.”
Huffington, who was born in Greece and moved to the United Kingdom when she was 16, studied economics at the University of Cambridge. She has been named one of the most influential women in the world by Time magazine, and one of the world’s most powerful women by Forbes.
In June, she sat down with ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis, where she talked about her new campaign to promote well-being and her own healthy routines, as well as the fact that she loves country music.
The Huffington Post was bought in 2011 by AOL, which itself was bought by Verizon last year. It won a Pulitzer Prize in 2012.
Thrive Global is expected to launch in November.
