Barber Foods Expands Stuffed Chicken Products Recall
More than 1.7M pounds of chicken products could be contaminated with salmonella.
-- Barber Foods is now recalling more than 1.7 million pounds of frozen, raw stuffed chicken products because of fears of salmonella.
The chicken products were produced from Feb. 17 to May 20, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, and include chicken tenders, chicken Cordon Bleu and stuffed chicken breasts.
The original recall, announced July 2, had included a little more than 58,000 frozen, raw stuffed chicken products made Jan. 29, 2015, Feb. 20, 2015 and April 23, 2015.
So far, at least six people have gotten sick in Minnesota and Wisconsin after eating the chicken products, according to the USDA.
In a statement on its website, AdvancePierre Foods Inc., which owns Barber Foods, said the company was working with the USDA to "to modify our production practices including, but not limited to, additional levels of microbiological analysis and additional control procedures to reduce salmonella in both incoming and outgoing raw stuffed chicken breast products."
