Billionaire Paypal Co-Founder Peter Thiel on List of Trump Backers
Facebook board member and investor Peter Thiel is supporting Donald Trump.
-- Peter Thiel is known for backing some of Silicon Valley's biggest success stories, from Facebook to PayPal, and now he's throwing his support behind Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and board member at Facebook, is one of the pledged California delegates supporting Trump, according to a list submitted to the secretary of state's office by the Trump campaign.
Thiel is on the state ballot as Republican delegate for Trump in the 12th Congressional District, which encompasses San Francisco. The state has 172 delegates, three for each of the 53 districts.
So far in the 2016 primary season, Thiel has only donated to former Republican ticket candidate Carly Fiorina. He made a $2 million donation in August to a Super PAC that supported the former Hewlett Packard chief executive.
The venture capitalist, who has invested in dozens of companies -- everything from Reddit, Quora, Palantir Technologies to Facebook -- is a longtime Republican contributor. He previously backed Ron Paul's Super PAC in 2012.
A self-described Libertarian, Thiel graduated from Stanford University as an undergraduate and then Stanford Law School.
Back in 2014, Thiel told The Daily Caller that Trump was, "...sort of symptomatic of everything that is wrong with New York City."
Thiel could not be reached for comment.
Other prominent Republicans on the list include former House committee chairman Darrel Issa and House majority leader Kevin McCarthy.
