'Jurassic World' Fastest Movie to $1B

"Jurassic World" has reached $1 billion at the box office in two weeks.

— -- "Jurassic World" has become the movie to reach $1 billion the fastest at the global box office, beating some already-staggering numbers from Hollywood heavy-hitters.

"We are pleased to announce that Jurassic World will cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office today after 13 days—faster than any film in history," Universal Pictures said in a statement on Monday.

The record was previously held by Universal Pictures' "Furious 7," which reached the mark in 17 days earlier this year. Before that, it was "Avatar," which reached the mark in 19 days.

Globally, "Jurassic World" is expected to cross the $1 billion mark today after grossing more than $981 million by the end of the weekend.

The top films of last year at this time, "22 Jump Street" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2," earned about half as much as the top films this past weekend.
