Ex-Con Letourneau to Host 'Hot for Teacher' Night

May 23, 2009— -- Mary Kay Letourneau made headlines in 1996 when she was arrested for having sex with her 12-year-old student.

Now, the former teacher, 47, is raising eyebrows again. Letourneau and her former student, who are now married, are hosting a "Hot for Teacher" night at a Seattle bar.

An advertisement says Letourneau will host the event at Fuel Sports Eats and Beats and Vili Fualaau, now 26 and the father of Letourneua's two youngest children, will be the DJ, "spinning Top 40 and club classic hits all night."

"It's turned into sort of a love story," the bar's owner, Mike Morris, told ABC News affiliate KOMO.

"I realize it had a sick twist at the beginning, but they're both adults now. They're both married by the state of Washington. So, it's just go and have fun on a Saturday night -- and if people are looking to have some fun, just come check us out," he said.

Letourneau is not the only accused criminal who has sought the spotlight in what some might call questionable ways.

Drew Peterson, Blagojevich, Michael Vick Seek Spotlight

Last year, Drew Peterson, who has been charged with the murder of his third wife and is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, agreed to a "Win a Date With Drew" contest on a Chicago radio station. The station later called off the contest.

Rod Blagojevich, the former governor of Illinois, reportedly wanted to appear as a contestant on the reality TV show "I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here." A federal judge barred Blagojevich from leaving the country to do the show, which is based in Costa Rica, pending his political corruption trial. Blagojevich's wife is now reportedly considering an offer to appear on the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NFL star Michael Vick has talked to producers about participating in a reality TV show. The proposed series would follow Vick, who was released from prison this week after serving 19 months on a dog-fighting conviction, and show him trying to "make amends for his past," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The rapper T.I. will appear in a MTV reality show, according to Entertainment Weekly. In March, he was sentenced to a year in prison on gun charges. He is expected to start serving his sentence later this year.

Mary Kay Letourneau 'An Absolute Sweetheart"

In 1996, Letourneau, then 34, made national headlines with the news that she was pregnant with the child of her then-12-year-old student, Fualaau.

Letourneau pleaded guilty to child rape and went to prison, giving birth to a daughter while there. She was paroled after six months, but within weeks was back in prison for ignoring a court order to stay away from Fualaau.

Pregnant again, Letourneau gave birth to their second daughter in prison.

She was released in August 2004, and the couple married eight months later.

"She meets people, she greets people, she dances to music, she hosts the party," Morris told KOMO. "And she's an absolute sweetheart. And everyone who meets her realizes that and is kind of flabbergasted by how nice she is."

In a 2007 interview with "Good Morning America," Letourneau said she would have acted differently had she known the legal ramifications of her actions.

"Had I known that all of, that things were going to lay themselves out like they did legally, I sure would have run really fast away from him," she said.

"No matter what was between us … there's nothing that we could have had that would be strong enough to say, 'Gee, yeah, that's OK for me to be separated from my children."
