Texas Business Owner to Donate 'In God We Trust' Decals to Police, Fire Cars
The city council of Forney, Texas, approved the decals on all city-owned cars.
-- A small business owner said he'll fork over the bill for labor and materials to place "In God We Trust" decals on city vehicles in Forney, Texas.
The city council voted unanimously Tuesday night in favor of a resolution that will add the motto to all city-owned vehicles. Jay Stinson, who owns Big Jay's Signs and Shirtworks, said he's agreed to design and apply the decals free of charge.
Stinson said he was prompted to donate labor and materials when he saw the proposal on Friday for the city council meeting's agenda.
"There are not many opportunities to give back to the city like this and I believed this was my chance to give back," Stinson told ABC News. "I believe in the words of this motto. I believe that our country was founded on this motto and believe that this project will be a small step to unite our community and make people feel better about our police and fire entities."
Stinson said he is still working on the final design of the decals, which will be placed on police and fire vehicles. The cost will depend on the final design and how many decal placements each vehicle will have.
He will spend between $1,000 to $2,500 on the project, depending on the number of vehicles.
Stinson said he's received positive feedback from customers.
A group called the Freedom From Religion Foundation challenged a similar move in Childress, Texas. The group said statements about God have "no place on government-owned cars." The group has not said if it will challenge the Forney resolution.
