2015 Emmy Award Nominations: 7 Snubs and Surprises
What about "The Affair" and "Outlander"?
-- There were plenty of sighs and gasps this morning as the 67th Emmy nominations were announced.
As expected, some newcomers, such as "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” booted out old favorites, such as “Big Bang Theory,” even with the expanded outstanding drama and comedy categories. Then again, we were surprised to see that some new series, such as “The Affair” and “Outlander,” were completely shut out.
There was good news for a couple new shows, “Empire” and “Black-ish,” which failed to score nominations in the drama and comedy categories but earned nominations for their stars, Taraji P. Henson and Anthony Anderson.
Meanwhile, veteran shows such as “Mad Men,” “House of Cards,” “Game of Thrones” and “American Horror Story: Freak Show” had very strong showings.
Here’s our list of snubs and surprises:
Tatiana Maslany
You may have heard the sound of the Internet collectively cheering: Finally, after being snubbed for the first two seasons of “Orphan Black,” star Tatiana Maslany scored an Emmy nomination for lead actress in a drama.

‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
Netflix's new series, "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Bloodline,” both earned nominations -- in the Outstanding Comedy and Outstanding Drama categories, respectively. “Unbreakable” stars Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and even creator Tina Fey, for her guest role, earned nominations, but leading lady Ellie Kemper was snubbed.
‘Empire’
Television’s biggest hit last season got snubbed for Best Drama, as did star Terrence Howard, but Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie, would not be denied, picking up a nomination for lead actress in a drama series.
‘The Affair’
One of television’s most-talked-about shows, “The Affair,” was completely shut out from the Emmys. Even star Ruth Wilson, who won a Golden Globe earlier this year didn’t get a nomination.
‘Scandal’
Kerry Washington failed to make the list this year after earning two consecutive nominations for playing Olivia Pope in “Scandal.” But the star of another Shonda Rhimes-affiliated show made the list. Oscar nominee Viola Davis was nominated for her work on “How to Get Away With Murder.” Meanwhile, past nominee Julianna Margulies was snubbed this year, though her “Good Wife” co-star, Christine Baranski, did score a nomination.
Gina Rodriguez
Another Golden Globe winner, Gina Rodriguez, was not nominated in the comedy category for her performance in the CW series “Jane the Virgin” despite being the darling of the 2014-2015 season.
