Joy Behar Pooh-Poohs Her Psychic 'View'

July 2, 2009 — -- Call her lightheaded, call her a bit loopy, but don't for a second think that Joy Behar succumbed to the powers of hypnosis after watching her on "The View" today.

The comedienne attempts to explore her previous lives with the help of otherworldly expert Dr. Brian Weiss on a special, pre-taped edition of the daytime talk show. "The Psychic View" also features the results of readings into Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck's pasts and futures.

"The guy claims that he hypnotized me, but I don't believe it," Behar told ABCNews.com. "He can say whatever he wants, but I was just really relaxed. I felt like I was getting psychoanalyzed."

Tune in to "The Psychic View" today at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.

"He told me to go back to some period in history in put myself someplace, so I went back to Louis XIV's court," she added. "But I was a cub reporter. I was just somebody watching. I wasn't getting my head cut off, I wasn't one of the peasants."

Despite the "dream-like" experience, the Brooklyn-born Behar doesn't really think she was a 17th century courtesan back in the day. In a clip from today's show, she calls reincarnation "a bunch of crap." So what does she believe in?

"Nothing," she said. "I believe in comedy. I believe in laughing, in having fun, and in being good to people. I don't believe in after death, before death -- nothing. When you're here you're here, when you're gone, you're gone."

And while she's here, she's focusing on her newest venture: "The Joy Behar Show," a nightly primetime talk show coming to cable TV this fall. Much like "The View," on which she has commented and, at times, created controversy in the 12 years since Barbara Walters launched it, Behar intends to stir things up on air.

"The main thing with the new show is I want it to have a lot of sparks," she said. "I want controversy, I want people disagreeing with each other, I want people being judgmental."

She promised her solo project will be worth watching, or at least, more worth watching than some of the other options on primetime TV.

Behar Says She's More Real Than 'Jon & Kate'

"'Jon and Kate,' that is the biggest scam," Behar said, referring to the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" parents who recently announced their plans to divorce. "My show, 'The Joy Behar Show,' will definitely be more real than 'Jon and Kate.'"

"Also I'll be topless," she joked. "I forgot to mention that."

Behar hopes to get one-on-one sit downs with the likes of George Clooney and Alec Baldwin -- people she dubbed "smart, who have things to say and happen to be famous." But to score her most coveted guest, she may have to employ the help of another expert featured on today's "View": John Edward, the purported psychic medium who says he can communicate with the dead.

"I'd like to talk to Jesus and find out what that was all about," Behar said. "He was such a hit, as Mel Brooks put it. Maybe John Edward can help me with that."
