Why Adam Levine Named His Daughter Dusty Rose
The Maroon 5 front man and his wife welcomed a daughter in September.
-- Adam Levine has Ellen DeGeneres to thank for his daughter's name.
As the Maroon 5 front man revealed on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" today, naming his first child was daunting.
"We had a name that we won't mention on television. The name game is tough game," he said. "Imagine you're writing the best song you've ever written in your life and you have to name it. It's really screwed up to actually have to put yourself through that."
After landing on what he thought was the perfect name, he reached out to DeGeneres.
"I texted Ellen and I was like, 'What do you think?' She was like, 'I hate it. I think it's a terrible name. I was like, 'Cool,'" he recalled. "She gave me like five names to think about: This, this, this, this, Dusty. So, you basically named my kid."
Ellen agreed, "I did name your kid!"
But the name still had to get past Levine's wife, model Behati Prinsloo, who wasn't so keen on it -- at first.
"I ran it by my wife and she's like, 'Mmm, I don't like it,'" Adam said.
But he didn't give up.
"I brought it back to her in the eleventh hour," he told DeGeneres. "I'm like 'Dusty's pretty cool!' She's like, 'I love it!'"
"It's a beautiful color as well," DeGeneres added. "I'd already thought of Dusty, and then somebody said, 'Dusty Rose,' and I said, 'Oh, that's her name.' And so I texted you, 'Dusty Rose.'"
Levine then gave a plug for DeGeneres.
"If anyone needs to name their child," the "Voice" mentor said, "Ellen's really good at it."
Levine, 37, and Prinsloo, 27, welcomed their daughter at the end of September.
