Adele Reveals The Inspiration Behind Her Latest Single 'Hello'
The song is not about the same person who inspired songs on "21"
-- Adele knows she'll never make an album like "21" again, nor does she want to try.
In her first proper interview in three years, the singer explained to i-D magazine that the heartbreak themes of her previous record won't dominate "25."
"I'm not heartbroken, but I probably won't be able to better the one I did, so what's the point?" she said. "Also, how I felt when I wrote '21,' it ain't worth feeling like that again. ... I was very sad and very lonely. Regardless of being a mom or a girlfriend, I didn't want to feel like that again."
The singer, 27, who has been dating Simon Konecki since 2011, added that her latest single, "Hello," is not about the same person who inspired songs on "21." ("That's over and done with," she said.) In fact, she added, "It's not about anyone specifically."
"It's about friends, ex-boyfriends, it's about myself, it's about my family," she said. "It's also about my fans as well. I feel like everyone thinks I'm so far away and I'm not."
Adele, who has a 3-year-old son with Konecki, added that while some people assume she lives in America now, she still lives in England.
"When I'm away, I really, really miss my life at home," she said. "The way that I feel when I'm not in England, is ... desperation. I can't breathe anywhere else."
She won't necessarily be there for long, though. After "25" is officially released on November 20, she said she'd like to focus on touring and traveling, among other things.
"I'd like to see Britney [Spears] in Vegas. Dunno about more kids. Maybe... I'll go into acting. ... I'd like to make another record," she said. "I'd like to be able to stand the test of time and the speed that the world is moving. I'd like to make records forever with the time I've been given for this one. If I can do that I'll be really f****** happy."
