'Bachelor in Paradise': 4 Couples Left Standing

— -- It's decision time on "Bachelor in Paradise."

On part 1 of the two-part season finale Monday night, a rose ceremony was held, and afterward the remaining couples -- with one exception -- went on dates that will help determine which romances will continue beyond Mexico.

Isabel “Izzy” Goodkind had her heart broken before the rose ceremony. She'd been feeling good about her relationship with Brett Melnick, but he was ready to move on with Lauren Himle. He explained to Izzy that he had more of a connection with Lauren. Izzy's response: "I should go."

Izzy regretted that her previous relationship with Vinny Ventiera ended because of Brett's presence in paradise. She was determined to make amends with Vinny.

As Izzy rode in the car that took her away from paradise, she called Vinny, asking for another chance. He refused, declaring that there was "no coming back from what happened."

Izzy felt sick to her stomach by these turn of events, so much so that the car had to pull over so she could get some fresh air.

As for Brett, his romance with Lauren ended abruptly at the rose ceremony. He chose not to hand out a rose to Lauren or anyone else, saying he hadn't found what he was looking for while in paradise. He then made his exit.

In addition to Lauren, Jami Letain and new arrival Tiara Soleim, aka the chicken enthusiast from Ben Higgins' "Bachelor" season, were sent home.

Shushanna Mkrtychyan -- one of the three women Wells Adams had dates with, along with Jami and Ashley Iaconetti -- didn't stick around for the rose ceremony. She quit the show because, she claimed, she didn't want to "fight for love."

Ashley was excited to continue her relationship with Wells, but he had other ideas. Host Chris Harrison had explained after the rose ceremony to the remaining couples that they'd have one-on-one dates -- and access to a fantasy suite -- to give them time to decide their long-term future, i.e. the potential for marriage.

Wells figured it was best to call things off with Ashley, essentially because the fantasy suite was part of the equation and he was uncomfortable with the idea of taking her virginity. Ashley, of course, cried. They both left the show.

Grant Kemp and Lace Morris got serious about their relationship by getting matching tattoos -- an idea they'd previously discussed. Grant and Lace both said "I love you."

Carly Waddell and Evan Bass also used the "L" word on their date -- after slathering colored paint on each other. Carly appears ready to get engaged to him.

Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray watched a group of kids play soccer. She's ready to marry Josh.

Nick Viall was still trying to let his guard down to Jen Saviano, though he told her earlier in the episode that the reason he was on the show was because of her.

The season finale of "Bachelor in Paradise" continues tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
