Beyonce and Jay-Z Welcome Baby Girl
The pop music superstar gave birth to daughter Blue on Saturday.
Jan. 8, 2012 -- One of the most anticipated events of the nascent year has finally happened -- Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first child into the world this weekend.
The pop star gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter on Saturday night in New York, according to E! The New York Daily News reported that baby's name is Ivy Blue Carter.
Representatives for Beyonce did not immediately respond to ABCNews.com's requests for comment.
On Friday, Beyonce reportedly checked into Lenox Hill hospital where the entire fourth floor was rented out for $1.3 million, a source told the Daily News.
To keep the couple's privacy, the hospital's windows and surveillance cameras were blacked out and employees of the hospital reportedly had to turn in their cell phones before starting their shifts, sources told the Daily News.
As news spread about the couple's new addition to their family, fans tweeted their congratulations including the couple's closest celebrity friends, who couldn't wait to share the good news.
Sister Solange Knowles tweeted this morning , "The most beautiful girl in the world."
Hip hop mogul, Russell Simmons tweeted, "congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z" while singer Rihanna tweeted, "Welcome to the the world princess carter! Love aunty rih."
Beyonce was seen in public late last week for the first time since rumors that she was on the delivery table swarmed the Internet at the end of last month.
She was spotted in front of a New York City office building with a bodyguard and a large, colorful scarf artfully concealing her midsection. Neither stopped photographers from chronicling what appears to be her steadily growing belly.
The singer coyly revealed at MTV's Video Music Awards in August that she and husband, Jay-Z, were expecting their first child, showing off her growing belly in a flowing Lanvin gown.
