Bobbi Kristina Brown: Bobby Brown Was In an 'Emotional State' When He Said She Was Awake
The singer and his wife speak out about the 22-year-old.
— -- Bobby Brown said over the weekend that his daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was "awake," but today, the singer's wife and attorney clarified that statement.
Alicia Etheredge-Brown said that her husband was in "an emotional state" when he spoke out to a concert crowd, though he is encouraged that his daughter "has made it out of ICU, opened her eyes, and started a rehabilitation that will be long and hard."
Added Christopher Brown, Bobby Brown's lawyer, "Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life. However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come."
Brown, the 22-year-old daughter of the singer and the late Whitney Houston, was found unresponsive in a bathtub inside her Roswell, Georgia, home on January 31. She was moved from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta to a rehabilitation facility last month.
Still, a source close to the family told ABC News that Brown's condition remains "unchanged."
The source said that while Brown is no longer on a ventilator, she still has tracheostomy tube that helps her breathe.
"Nothing has changed since she got that months ago," the source added.
Etheredge-Brown, who is expecting her second child with Bobby Brown, said that her husband has been "encouraged by the steps that Bobbi Kristina has made" and is praying for her recovery.
"We will hold on to all the blessings God gives us to help her at this time and we look forward to her having a relationship with her unborn sister as our family grows in love and faith," she said. "I just wish my husband could deal with this most painful and difficult time with people surrounding him who fully support and pray for Bobbi Kristina’s recovery and only her recovery. Life is the most precious thing that we all have.”
Throughout the past few weeks and months, Bobby Brown has asked fans to pray for his daughter. Earlier this month, during an appearance at the Soul Food Festival in Los Angeles, he thanked the crowd for their support -- a sentiment that he echoed today.
“We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina," he told ABC News in a statement. "God is hearing our prayers.”
