Bobbi Kristina Brown: What to Know About Her Partner Nick Gordon
Gordon and a friend found Brown unresponsive in a tub, police said.
-- Since Nick Gordon and a friend discovered Bobbi Kristina Brown unresponsive this past weekend at her Georgia home, according to police, there have been a lot of questions about Gordon and the nature of his relationship with Brown.
Brown, 21, claimed in a 2014 Twitter post that she had married Gordon, 25. But her father's lawyer released a statement earlier this week that contradicted that claim.
"To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon," Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC, legal counsel for her father, Bobby Brown, told ABC News.
Gordon has yet to be quoted publicly about allegedly finding Bobbi Kristina Brown face down in her bath tub last weekend.
Regardless of whether Gordon and Brown were married, the two definitely were involved romantically for almost three years.
How the Relationship Began
Whitney Houston took in Gordon years back when the boy was just 12 years old, as seen on reality TV, including the series "The Houstons: On Our Own." He lived alongside Bobbi Kristina Brown for almost a decade before Houston's death in February 2012.
Rumors that the two had begun a relationship started shortly after Houston's death.
Bobbi Kristina defended the situation on Facebook in 2013, writing, "I'm tired of hearing people say, 'Eww you're engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.' Let me clear up something. We aren't even real brother and sister, nor is he my adoptive brother."
She tweeted and added to her posts that her mother would approve of the union.
What the Family Thinks
But some family members evidently did not feel the same way.
Whitney Houston's sister-in-law, Pat Houston, told Oprah Winfrey on "Where are They Now" late last year that "It just didn't sit right with me."
She added, "I always looked at them as being, you know, the brother-and-sister type. I just did not see the relationship moving in that direction. ... [Bobbi Kristina] had to endure many, many things. ... I can only continue to be the auntie that I am, and that's try to love her, try to give her the right advice."
Despite the family's hesitation about the couple, Gordon told "Extra" last January that he saw the relationship as fulfilling a promise to Houston.
“[Whitney] made me promise several times to look after Krissy. I will never, ever, ever break that promise," he said.
Bobbi Kristina Brown added to TMZ in a video interview that their relationship, "is exactly what [Houston] wanted, us together" and that they got Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother's blessing.
"We saw her at our cousin's sweet 16 and she gave us her blessing," Gordon said.
Other reports, including a recent People magazine article, have claimed Gordon and Cissy Houston actually did not get along.
Gordon's Arrest
Gordon does have a few arrests in his past, including for suspicion of DUI in August 2014.
Gordon's vehicle struck a curb and overturned on Aug. 28, police told ABC News at the time. Afterward, Gordon was charged with DUI, failure to maintain a lane and driving with a suspended license.
Gordon was not injured in the crash.
He later tweeted that "No toxins where in my blood" at the time of the accident. He added that he didn't take a breath test before the arrest.
He was also accused in 2012 of reckless driving and speeding, a case that appeared to remain open.
As for the DUI case, the Roswell, Georgia, courts and Gordon's lawyer were not able to release any information regarding possible pleas or say whether or not the case remained open.
Gordon did not respond to calls for comment from ABC News.
