Bono Hurts His Arm in Cycling Accident; Band Cancels Shows

— -- U2 singer Bono injured his arm in a bicycling accident in New York's Central Park, causing the band to cancel a series of upcoming shows, the band announced tonight.

"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time -- we're one man down," said a note on the U2 website from "Edge, Adam and Larry" -- The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr.

"Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it," the note said. "We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."

The band had been scheduled to make a weeklong stand on the "Tonight Show" starting Monday.

He'd just arrived from London, where the band and a battery of other stars were recording a remake of the '80s hit "Do They Know It's Christmas," to raise money to help fight Ebola in Africa.

Bono experienced an in-flight scare on a trip to Berlin days earlier, when a rear door fell off the plane.
